Game Snapshot
Italian Game: Classical Variation
Master Lens
LyonBeast (Black) won by turning an aggressive kingside pawn storm into a decisive material gain, then converting that advantage with the bishop pair and a passed pawn. The game demonstrates how coordinated piece activity and timing can turn an attack into a winning endgame.
What The GM Did Well By Phase
Opening
Black built a strong pawn storm on the kingside with **...g5**, **...h6**, and **...h5**, forcing White's bishop to retreat and weakening White's king safety. At the same time Black developed pieces to active squares—**...Bc5**, **...Nf6**, **...Ne7**, and **...Ng6**—so that every piece contributed to the attack (development and space control). This shows a learner how creating space and active piece placement early can set the stage for a successful attack.
Middlegame
When White's queen ventured to **a7** with **20. Qxa7**, Black captured it with **20...Bxa7**, winning a queen for a rook and gaining a huge material edge. After that, Black coordinated the bishops and queen to pressure White's king and the weak pawn structure, culminating in **31...Qxd5**, which forced White's resignation. The lesson here is to punish over‑extension (the queen grab) and to use active pieces—especially the bishop pair—to convert a material advantage into a win.
